Central Library in Conroe to hold genealogy events

The Central Library in Conroe will hold a series of genealogy programs to commemorate Family History Month in October.

“Civil War Research” will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to noon. The program will be presented by Lynna Kay Shuffield, a genealogy advocate, researcher and blogger who specializes in military records about the Civil War. This program will be held at the Central Library, located at 104 I-45 North.

The Montgomery County Genealogical and Historical Society meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 6:30 p.m. Members of the society will be on hand, along with special guest Caroline Berry Cryar. Everyone attending is welcome to bring examples of their own genealogical adventures. This program will be held at the Central Library.

“Beginning Genealogy” will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. People can enjoy an introduction to the Genealogy and Local History Room, and what’s housed there to start a family history. This program will be held at the Central Library.

“Creating and Preserving the Family Narrative” will be held on Friday, Oct. 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. People can learn tips for writing a compelling family history story. The program will be held at the George and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library, located at 8125 Ashlane Way in The Woodlands.

The “Montgomery County Heritage” program will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Heritage Museum of Montgomery County staff will be present to discuss the museum’s collection of historical items. This program will be held at the Central Library.

The “Ancestry Library Edition” will be held Wednesday, Oct. 19, and Thursday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. People will get an introduction to searching in the popular database, along with suggestions for search strategies. The program will be held at the R.B. Tullis Library, located at 21569 U.S. Highway 59 in New Caney.

And “Lineage Day” will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. Members of the Montgomery County Genealogical and Historical Society will be back to provide assistance for researchers. Short discussions about projects and research stories will also be shared. This program will be held at the Central Library.
