Genealogists to meet on March 20

The Liberty County Genealogical Society is proud to announce that Ms. Penny Clark will speak at its March 20 meeting.

Clark is University Archivist and head of Special Collections at Lamar University. She was archivist at the Tyrrell Historical Library in Beaumont for nine years and archivist/museum curator at the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center in Liberty for five years.

She will be speaking on images from the Larry Jene Fisher Photographic Collection at Lamar University’s Special Collections in Beaumont.

Fisher was a professional photographer and filmmaker who lived in Saratoga for over 10 years. His work was the subject of a book, Big Thicket People: Larry Jene Fisher’s Photographs of the Last Southern Frontier. Fisher documented the way of life of people in the Big Thicket making a living via lumber, farming, and petroleum as way as their way of life including church services, construction of houses, deer hunts, and funerals.

This promises to a very informative presentation. All members and guests are urged to attend.

The Liberty County Genealogical Society meets the third Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m. in the DAR Meeting Room behind the historic Cleveland-Partlow House on Grand Avenue in Liberty.
