It’s high school reunion time

Mary O’Connell Gentile was long gone by the time the shelter opened. She was one of 60 girls who graduated from St. Patrick’s in 1942, and she’s gearing up for her 70th class reunion next month, where alumnae will no doubt talk about the nuns from the Sisters of the Holy Cross.

Of those 60 graduates, 15 are alive and well, with 13 living in the D.C. area, reports Mary’s daughter Nancy. The rest are dead, though six don’t show up in the Social Security Death Index, so they may be out there somewhere.

Said Nancy, “I keep telling my mother that having 25 percent of your graduating class still alive and kicking at age 88 speaks well for those St. Pat’s girls.”
