You might try Ancestry.com, or Family Tree Maker 2006.

There are many popular brands. I’ve only ever used the free one from ancestry.com, Ancestry Family Tree works well for me.
I work backwards — my ‘main gedcom’ is always the online one and I occasionally backup to my computer. I can never suffer loss from hard drive failure or natural or other disasters because my data’s stored on ancestry’s servers. You can do the same with whatever software you choose.
BTW there is a popular myth that one cannot use ancestry.com without paying but that is not true. What is true is that yes, most of ancestry.com is subscription only but not all – sign up for the free stuff with just a name & password. You have free access to the public trees, message boards, SSDI, 1880 census, and various other resources.
I believe the most popular Macintosh genealogy software is Reunion, which you can find at http://www.leisterpro.com/. It has the ability to publish it to the web, though the design isn’t flashy.
I would also suggest you look at http://www.familypulse.org which will be available in a couple of weeks, which makes it easy to create a full website, by uploading your GEDCOM, and then you can add pictures, histories, etc. in addition to pedigree charts and a professional design.
Good luck!
i don’t know if its compatable with a mac, but i use myhertitage.com, very easy, add pics, notes, citations, movie clips and so forth. you can also publish to the web
Personal Ancestry File of the Mormons is an easy program to use though it is not multi-lingual which I am looking for. It is free and the cost of the PAF companion for printing is quite low
check out Legacy.
also go to your puter store where they sell software…find one and it will tell you on it…what computers you can use with it…
