Question by DeutscheMann7: When did America throw away “Give me liberty, or give me death”?
As a veteran I am disturbed at how many people are saying things like:
“let them tap phones, if you aren’t doing anything wrong what do you have to worry about?”
“I’m healthy who cares if corporations and insurance companies access my medical records?”
“He’s a cop, he can pull you over if he feels like it, just go with the flow and stop questioning it”
“If they want to search my house without a warrant let them, I have nothing to hide”
“they should just take *THEM ALL* and…….” (I think we know from the 1940’s what happens to *them all* when imagination’s run wild)
I don’t know if it is just younger generations, or if I am off track here, but when I ask people about “Give me liberty, or give me death” I am met with “that is outdated nonsense” or “that was before 9/11” Now I am NOT a political person, so I don’t pick sides. The extent of my politics is only respect and admiration of our constitution, it’s amendments, and our bill of rights. But I sense that our country is changing. Both the government becoming more clandestine, and people becoming more accepting that our government is . Anyone else see this too? Or am I just getting more snippy in my old age of mid 30’s? lol

I am older than you… and I’ve been saying these things for about as long as you have been alive. Look at two of the choices that the American Public has made in the last 20+ years. A Draft dodger and someone who used racist generalities such as “Typical White Person” have been elected President. One of them even put people in places of Authority who have connections with people who tried to blow up the pentagon!
I’m w/ you in a lot of things but at the same time I think of what 1 man said- & funny because I think it was Little Richard who said it “We can’t allow anyone to punch a hole in the U.S. constitution, not even the government, because that hole might someday be used against us”.
I think the problem really is (& not only in the U.S) The majority of the children, the new generation, don’t know the issues, don’t care to know the issues & all they want to do is sit back & watch life pass by. Then there are the 1’s who get involved but only on issues they think will benefit them without seeing the other side of the coin.
Personally I think, & I say this with a lot of sorrow because I am a mother, we have raised a whole generation of children who have a warped sense of entitlement.
As my favorite American, Benjamin Franklin put it, “Those who are willing to sacrifice Liberty for the sake of safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”
Nuff said!
