Genealogists meeting Oct. 6
|IRON RIVER—On Thursday, Oct. 6, the Iron County Genealogical Society will meet at 1 p.m. in the J. Patrick White Conference Room at the West Iron District Library.
People are asked to please note the change in day for this group’s meeting.
Ross Parcels, director of the Iron County Historical Museum, will be speaking about Alfred Branchini, for whom Legion Post 17 in Iron River is named, with an emphasis on his death on July 31, 1918, during the second battle of the Marne.
Parcels has a great deal of information about the action in which Branchini died. He was a member of Co. L in the 125th Infantry Regiment of the 32nd (Red Arrow) Division. The talk will feature an examination of Branchini’s “Burial Case File” from the National Archives at College Park.
Anyone interested in genealogy or Iron County history is encouraged to attend. Meetings are open to all individuals and are held in the J. Patrick White Conference Room of the West Iron District Library.
