Latest ‘Genealogist’ mailed to members

The most recent issue of the Illiana Genealogical Historical Society’s quarterly publication, “Illiana Genealogist” (Vol. 48, No. 2, Summer 2012), has been mailed to society members and may be viewed/purchased at the Illiana Genealogy Library, 215 W. North St., Danville, IL 61832.

As usual, this issue includes articles of interest to anyone researching in the Illiana (east-central Illinois, west-central Indiana) area. For example, Edith Sperry Boyd’s article, “History of Jameston Methodist Church,” includes a list of ministers from 1897 to 1960; the article “Teachers Institute of Vermilion County” names each teacher, with hometown, in 1866; “Early Physicians of Vermilion County (part 2)” includes biographical information on such doctors as Walter J. Brown, W. A. Cochran, W. H. Morehouse, Henry F. Becker, Thomas F. Walton, George W. Poole, E. E. Clark, J. M. Guy, Philip H. Barton, Rufus W. Gillette, and many more; Donald Claypool has written an article on Richard Cast; Patricia Marble Claypool has submitted a most interesting article on Perry Cozatt and calliopes; and Carrie Claypool Ingalsbe has supplied detailed information on the family of Alfred Ingalsbe who left Lockport, N.Y., and settled near Ludlow in 1862. This issue’s surname index and list of new members (see below) are also helpful.

A membership in IGHS costs $25 per calendar year. Members receive four issues of the “Illiana Genealogist” each year and may conduct genealogical research in the society’s library free. Non-members of IGHS and/or the Governor Bradford Chapter of the DAR are asked for a $3 donation per day for the use of the library. The library is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended hours on Tuesday until 8 p.m. Saturday hours are 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. These summer hours are in effect until Oct. 31.
